shutter speed 101


so i decided to shoot my self potraits and shutter speed photographs
i am sitting at the computer listening to pre-teen


"my life isn't perfect, oh by the way did you see the new car my daddy bought me"
drama trying to figure out what to write about the photograph


i don't like it


photo has been hard work for me because i find myself trying to challenge
work i have done previously with digital, i want to be different and after falling in love with artist such as sally mann and heidi slimane i want to totally change how i go about photographing people


its hard


the composition is good but thats as far as it goes, i dont really enjoy any one particular photograph because to me i couldve done better so here is the contact sheet to view

so for this new assignment we have to do portraits

which i adore
which never come out the way i see them in my head


yesterday in class we were going through my portfolio
and chappell commented that it was "so...fashion"


no
no
NO!


i love what i shoot, yes
but some of my favorite photographers are NOT fashion
maybe that's a good thing....


anyway for a new assignment i will be shooting in the inspiration of heidi slimane
very black and white bold photographs that are simple but say alot
also i have recently discovered the work of max vadukul who does shoot fashion
but i admire his work alot


above is a photograph i shot for our lighting assignment
i like this because i think i am finally breaking the wall between digital and traditional
i have realised that with traditional its not about bright colors, but the simplicity for me
is what makes it all the more powerful


i had to learn that black and white photography is powerful enough by itself
and that i don't need to garnish it in bright makeup and sparkles.

self critique
finally i am getting around to uploading my work


so this was my first time shooting with my canon 35mm
and i think it shows


i took the safe route and went back to my fashion photog roots
but i think this is such a boring photo


the composition is good YES
but it lacks a story
it lacks interest
it lacks me...



urrgh.
